Made in Minnesota: Great Lakes Collection

On the third day of “Made in Minnesota” week, North Star Dixie has connected with an apparel company looking to make some moves in Minnesota and create a brand that highlights the Midwest life up at the cabin our hanging out at the lake.  Great Lakes Collection was started by David Burke and Spencer Barrett over the summer of 2012.  The two gentlemen noticed their friends wearing brands that are popular with the East Coast way of life and realized there wasn’t much of that here in the Midwest.  From there, they set off designing what is the Great Lakes Collection showcasing the Midwestern lifestyle of hard work and enjoying life.  They chose to use a blue loon logo, iconic for the Midwest, especially here in Minnesota.

The Great Lakes Collection believes that American made is better, but that isn’t their only focus.  They work hard to create your “favorite shirt that just so happens to be Made in America.”  Currently, the Great Lakes Collection is sold online through their website while they develop relationships with retailers to carry the line.   Both men’s and women’s short sleeve and long sleeve jersey cotton shirts are available in a variety of colors along with their logo koozie.  Keep an eye on the Great Lakes Collection, they are a young company working towards expanding the line and should have a new items added soon.

Great Lakes Collection is also focused on keeping the lakes beautiful by partnering with two organizations, Conservation Minnesota and the Alliance for Great Lakes.  Both organizations are geared towards keeping our waters clean and educating people on the need for a healthy wildlife. There may be 10,000 (I’ve heard as high as 12,000) lakes in Minnesota alone, but preserving their nature is a high priority.
